What a Sachet Is

Sachets are a roll stock format. Printed roll stock is printable film that comes to you in a flat, printed roll and is then formed, filled and sealed at the manufacturer’s facility, so the packet itself is created on your line rather than shipped to you empty.

Sachets work with a horizontal form, fill and seal machine for a three sided seal. These will turn into flat sealed packets. Custom sachet packaging is ideal for use with powders, liquids and gels, and many manufacturers rely on sachets for things like promotional sample items.

Sampling and Single Use

A sachet puts one use of a product into a customer’s hands at a very low cost per unit, which is why the format is so common for trial sizes, gift with purchase and promotional inserts. A customer who has already used the product is a different prospect from one who has only read about it.

Sachet, Stick Pack or Flow Wrap

A sachet runs horizontally and seals on three sides into a flat packet. A stick pack is tall and narrow and runs in vertical form, fill and seal machines, typically filled multiple units across at one time. Flow wrap is made with plastic films to create a package with a fin seal on the back, filled continuously and sealed off at both ends. The filling equipment usually decides which one is right before the marketing does.
