Luxurious Options for High-End Foods

Specially crafted, niche products need unique specialty food packaging to make sure they shine on the shelf. Specialty laminations will add that extra dimension with an indulgent feel. The touch and feel of a lamination will give consumers a tangible experience that they will not soon forget.

Some of the sensory perceptions we can offer through these unusual laminations include velvet soft touch, gritty sandpaper, leather and linen. We have one of the largest offerings in the industry and are expanding on a frequent basis, so be sure to stay in touch and up to date with the latest trends and new releases.

Soft touch lamination is also available for pouches, currently trending as the most popular way to package everything from snacks to nuts to frozen food items and more. Spot UV is also available on pouches to make any branding or call outs pop with ease, which is where custom snack packaging earns its second look on shelf.

Another option to elevate your food packaging is a full color multi-panel label, ideal for showcasing recipes or extra nutritional information. Ask for a sample of this one-of-a-kind option and a team member will connect with you.

K. Sidrane is always innovating and expanding upon our product repertoire. If you have an idea, we would love to give it a try. Reach out to us today to find out how we can work together to create the most exciting packaging for your specialty food and meat products.

What Makes Food Labels Harder Than They Look

A food label carries more mandatory copy than almost any other consumer package, and it has to survive an environment that works against adhesion. Both problems land on the same few square inches.

Required Copy and Regulated Type Sizes

A packaged food sold at retail in the United States carries a statement of identity, a net quantity declaration, a Nutrition Facts panel, an ingredient list in descending order of predominance, allergen declarations, and the name and place of business of the manufacturer, packer or distributor. Type sizes for several of these are set by regulation, not by the designer. Health and nutrient content claims are regulated separately, and certification marks such as Non-GMO, Kosher and Gluten-Free each carry their own rules. Confirm current requirements with your regulatory advisor before printing.

Wet Surfaces, Cold Surfaces and Freezers

Meat labels are the extreme case. The film on a vacuum sealed tray is wet, cold, and often applied at temperatures where a standard permanent adhesive will not tack. Frozen and refrigerated products then go through freeze and thaw cycles that lift a label specified for a dry shelf. The label construction has to be chosen for the temperature at application and the temperature in storage, which are rarely the same.

Why Multi SKU Runs Matter to Small Producers

A specialty food line rarely has one product. A jam maker has six flavors, a butcher has forty cuts, a snack brand has a dozen SKUs before the seasonal releases. Printing each one as a separate job carries a separate setup charge every time. A combination run puts multiple SKUs through a digital press in a single pass, so a full line refresh costs closer to one job than to twelve. That is the difference between a specialty line being viable at low volume and not.

Where Finish Does the Selling

Specialty food packaging sits on shelf next to national brands with much larger budgets. The one square foot the shopper actually sees is where a small producer can outspend them. A textured lamination the customer feels in the hand, a spot UV that makes a call out read wet, a soft touch pouch that reads as considered rather than mass market. Those choices carry weight far beyond their cost on a niche product.
